What it was built for

O.Morris Carpentry & Building Services is a sole trader business run by Oliver Morris, working across Essex, Hertfordshire and Cambridgeshire.

The work spans two sides of the same trade. On the carpentry side, bespoke joinery: fitted wardrobes and understairs storage, doors and door hanging, wall panelling, skirting and architrave, decking and flooring. On the building side, the larger structural work: extensions, groundworks, brickwork, driveways and block paving, patios and landscaping.

It is a business built almost entirely on referrals and repeat customers, with a consistent run of five-star reviews. The quality of the work was never in question. What it lacked was somewhere for that quality to live online.

The brief

Oliver came to us with the problem most skilled tradespeople face. Enquiries arrived through word of mouth, WhatsApp and social media, which works well until you want to grow. There was no single place to send a prospective customer, nothing to show up when someone searched for a carpenter or builder in their town, and no way to present past jobs properly.

The approach

We deliberately chose not to reach for a page builder or an off-the-shelf platform. This is a marketing site for a local trade business, so it was hand-built for speed and longevity rather than assembled from parts.

That decision drives everything good about the finished result. Pages load close to instantly, even on a poor mobile signal at the side of a job. There is no plugin ecosystem to keep patched, no monthly platform fee, and nothing that quietly breaks after an update. It is also genuinely quick to change, so a new service page or a price update is a small job rather than a project.

The design was drawn from Oliver’s own branding: a deep navy and clean white palette, generous whitespace and typography that gets out of the way, letting the photography of the finished work carry the page. For a trade business, the photographs are the sales pitch, so the layout is built around showing them at scale.

What it features

Pages and content

  • More than eighteen pages, built around how customers actually search
  • Thirteen individual service pages, each with its own copy and imagery, so the site answers a search for a specific job in a specific town rather than competing only on the generic term builder
  • A services index that ties those pages together and helps visitors self-select
  • Photo gallery of completed work with click-to-enlarge, built to take new images without any code changes
  • Testimonials presented in the site’s own design, so the social proof sits alongside the work

Content management

  • Secure client login at a private admin address
  • Oliver can create, edit and publish case studies with photography, unaided and from his phone
  • Changes go live automatically within a minute of being saved
  • Written handover documentation, so the client is never dependent on us for routine updates

Enquiries

  • Enquiry form with no server to maintain or secure
  • Invisible spam protection, so genuine customers are never asked to solve a puzzle
  • Automatic email notification on every submission
  • Direct-dial and WhatsApp links, so mobile visitors can make contact in one tap

Design and front end

  • Bespoke design developed from the client’s existing brand mark and colour palette
  • Fully responsive and mobile-first, since the majority of trade enquiries come from phones
  • Built for speed, so pages load close to instantly even on a weak mobile signal
  • Structured so a single edit updates the entire site

Search visibility

  • Unique page title, description and canonical address on every page, not one generic set repeated
  • Structured data marking the business up correctly for local search, with breadcrumb trails throughout
  • Sitemap submitted and verified in Google Search Console
  • Link previews configured with a purpose-built share image, so links shared in WhatsApp or Facebook look right
  • Location-aware copy written around the towns and counties the business actually covers

Hosting and infrastructure

  • Global hosting with automatic SSL, included at no ongoing cost
  • Custom domain with DNS configured for fast, reliable resolution
  • Every change tracked, so any release can be rolled back instantly
  • Analytics configured for traffic and enquiry tracking

The result

Oliver now has a website that matches the standard of his work: quick, clean, easy to navigate and comprehensive about what the business actually offers. Every enquiry arrives in one place. Every completed job can be added to the portfolio by the person who did it. And the ongoing running costs, hosting, forms, content management and analytics included, are minimal.

More than that, the site does the job a trade website is really for. When someone is recommended a builder and looks them up before picking up the phone, there is now something there that closes the sale rather than raising doubts.
